Women in Sustainability: Reflecting on Min Jiang's Journey to Leadership

As part of Women's History Month, the Office of Sustainability welcomed Min Jiang, Project Director of Facilities Management and Operations at UC Merced, for an engaging Women in Sustainability lecture and Q&A. The conversation, held in the Crescent Arch Room, drew students, emerging professionals, and community members together for an afternoon of reflection and insight.
Min shared her journey rising to leadership in facilities and sustainability, a field historically filled with men, offering a candid look at the persistence and strategy that shaped her career. Having served UC Merced since 2002, she brought a rare perspective to the discussion: she has been part of the campus story from its earliest days, helping build the first UC campus in the Central Valley from the ground up.
Attendees heard what it took to raise UC Merced from an open stretch of Central Valley grassland into the nation's newest research university. Min helped design this campus from day one around sustainability, with its record-setting run of LEED-certified buildings starting under her watchful eye. Min spoke to how those ambitions get translated into the daily work of running a growing campus, and to the career opportunities emerging at the intersection of facilities management and sustainability, encouraging young leaders and aspiring professionals to see the wide range of paths open to them in the field.
Her story is one of purpose and determination, and a reminder of the vision and dedication behind the campus community members experience every day.
