Professor Paul Almeida, Rasha Naseif, and Isabelle Haddad employed decarbonization surveys between the Spring of 2021 and Spring of 2024 at UC Merced. The surveys in 2021 and 2023 engaged with 1 out of every 14 students on campus at the time and uncovered that students report beliefs about climate change that are consistent with just transition action strategies (See report #1 below). The survey in Spring 2024 was campus wide and reached 1 in 3 students, staff, and faculty with over 3,000 respondents (one of the largest surveys in the history of the campus with findings discussed in report #2 in English and Spanish below). Both studies were used to inform the UC Merced Decarbonization Plan, the UC Merced Climate Action Plan, and resulted in several peer-reviewed scientific articles.
