SNRI
The Sierra Nevada Research Institute (SNRI), founded in 2007 as UC Merced’s first Organized Research Unit, focuses on studying environmental and sustainability challenges in California’s San Joaquin Valley and Sierra Nevada regions. These areas are rich in natural resources and agriculture but face threats like population growth, pollution, climate change, and land-use conflicts. SNRI brings together faculty, researchers, and students who use the region as a "outdoor laboratory" to conduct research on these issues.
