The University of California, Merced is proud to announce it is the first public research institution in the nation to achieve Carbon Neutrality, and the first institution in the University of California system.
Since the founding of UC Merced in the San Joaquin Valley in 2005, a commitment was made to demonstrate environmental stewardship.
To date, a diverse and vibrant environmentally friendly campus is reflected in academic, engagement, and operational programs.
Which include course offerings that integrate sustainable learning in the classroom, and co-curricular experiences and internships that explore ways to reduce carbon emissions.
The engagement of staff, faculty, and students have and continue to contribute to resource conservation practices on site, and our campus operational infrastructure has encouraged efficiency, and the use of renewable energy.
These efforts are some of the measures that have positioned the campus to reduce its carbon emissions profile.
We are just getting started.
The University also generates onsite renewable energy through a solar photovoltaic system that accounts for XXXX percent of the universities' energy consumption.
